Hold the UTMSU Accountable For Discriminatory Motion That Demonizes Jewish and Israeli Students
Hillel at the University of Toronto is appalled by a recent motion passed by the University of Toronto Mississauga Students’ Union (UTMSU) that endorses the discriminatory Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign that targets Israelis and their supporters. Worse, we are outraged that the union adopted a position that would force funded student clubs to adopt a one-sided, pro-Palestinian stance or risk losing their university funding.
That a student governance body representing all students would pass such a prejudicial motion at a time of unprecedented antisemitism is unacceptable and dangerous. We are not, however, surprised given UTMSU’s obsession with demonizing Jewish students and their allies on campus.
Enough is enough.
We are convening urgent discussions with the university administration and imploring them to take action to ensure that the UTMSU can no longer abuse their podium.
