Balancing On One Foot

Written by Allie Chandler, On One Foot Team Guelph Captain 2018

Team Guelph has been practicing our balancing and all that time spent “on one foot” has paid off! We kicked off this semester with another year of Hillel’s On One Foot campaign raising money to establish the Jeff White Community Building Fund. I am blown away by our team’s fundraising efforts and being the three-time reigning champions.

Along with Josh Small, my co-captain for the campaign, we held fundraising events and worked to inspire our team to achieve our goal. We began with our kick-off dinner with the entire team to send out our first emails. We had an extremely successful coffee house event that showcased the amazing talents of our fellow gryphons. The Hillel house was packed, the baked goods were hot, and the atmosphere was just what everyone needed before getting into midterms. We had some amazing auction items and even had a pair of Leafs tickets to bid on. We raised an incredible $620 from everyone’s generous donations to ensure the future of Hillel.

Another really fun event was our Menchie’s Madness. We partnered with Menchies to donate a portion of sales to OOF and had the amazing support of students, faculty, and community members that came to enjoy a frozen yogurt, even though it was about -10 degrees outside.

All in all, On One Foot is a time that brings together the Guelph Jewish community.  This money will establish a Jeff White Community Building Fund and a Guelph Hillel Scholarship. Hillel has been able to grow and thrive thanks to all the generous donors who give us the ability to create a unique community on campus where everyone is welcome and can feel proud of being a Jewish student in Guelph.
