It’s difficult to put into words and reflection the year we had at McMaster Hillel. We started the year with an amazing surprise – our office was renovated and made into a space that we could truly enjoy. And enjoy we did! Bagel lunches in our “lounge” as we lovingly call it, were full to capacity. Thanks to On One Foot and the efforts of our amazing students, we had more food, more programs, and more to offer than ever before.
This year we welcomed our new Israel Fellow, Ayinadis Darbow, and she spent the year connecting with students, engaging in Israel programs and just being an amazing friend. One highlight was the Sigd program, a holiday celebrated by the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel. Ayinadis made a delicious spread of Ethiopian food, spoke about the holiday and the Ethiopian Jewish community.
Holocaust Education Week, Israel Wine and Cheese, Interfaith Shabbat Dinner, Karaoke night – these were some of the big programs that brought in so many students and so many good memories. The smaller programs also had a significant impact – weekly homework hangout for first year students, first year council, movie nights, and game nights. We held our first ever Coffee House this year and we are so excited to do it again next year.
We ended the year on a strong note with celebrating Israel at 70, throwing a good-bye party for our Israel Fellow and celebrating our student leadership for an amazing year that they helped to build. Thank you to our student executive, staff, friends, supporters and community for making this year one of the best years yet!
