Hillel Queen's Pre-Orientation Program for Jewish Students
We are excited to introduce the Hillel Queen's Pre-Orientation Program, specifically designed for incoming Jewish first-year students at Queen's University. Our program aims to create a supportive and welcoming environment, ensuring a smooth transition into university life.
Why Join?
For First-Year Students:

- Assurance that students are moving in without conflicting with Shabbat observance.
- Confidence in a smooth and well-organized transition.
- Avoid the never-ending lines and standstill traffic that are hallmarks of a Queen’s move-in day!
- Your child can collect their residence keys right at our Hillel House!
Program Schedule:
Thursday August 29th:
- 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Welcome and Arrival at Beth Israel Synagogue or Hillel House, with food and refreshments provided.
- 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Optional Welcome Event for Parents and Students featuring representatives from Hillel and the university.
- 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Move into Residences and settle in.
- 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM: Dinner, Icebreakers, and Activities to help students connect and build friendships.
Friday August 30:
- 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Breakfast at Beth Israel.
- 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM: Hanging at Gord Downie Pier: Spike Ball, Music, Food, Ice Cream, swimming and tanning, packed lunch provided.
- 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Free Time to relax and unwind.
- 6:00 PM: Optional Kabbalat Shabbat Services with choices between Traditional Orthodox or Traditional Egalitarian.
- 7:00 PM: Frosh Welcome Shabbat, a celebratory Shabbat dinner at Beth Israel Synagogue or Otterburn House.
Additional Info:
- Cost is $200 CAD per student (includes room fees, all activities, meals, and a branded tote bag with amazing swag).
- We offer the option to waive all or part of the participation fee for those who need it. Please include a note inviting students to reach out for financial assistance if needed.
