Purim Fundraiser 2022
We all know how much fun it is to receive a gift delivered straight to our door!
Throughout the pandemic, hundreds of Jewish students at Ryerson have received customized care packages delivered directly to their homes. Now, in honour of the festive holiday of Purim, it’s your turn to experience the gift of giving by joining us in our mishloach manot fundraiser!
Between February 23rd and March 9th, support Hillel Ryerson by purchasing a Mishloach Manot for your family, neighbours, or friend! Each package is filled with delicious treats sourced from local Toronto businesses that generously support the Hillel Ryerson community.
Packages can either be delivered straight to your door, or to your desired recipient. All bags include a customized hand-crafted card with artwork created by a Hillel Ryerson student leader. Deliveries will be completed by staff and student volunteers between March 14th – March 16th.
All proceeds collected will go towards programming and initiatives that directly support the Jewish student community at Ryerson University.
Why Give Mishloach Manot?
Mishloach manot are gifts of food traditionally sent to each other during this holiday. Mishloach manot literally means “the sending of portions” in Hebrew and this mitzvah (good deed) is seen as an opportunity to strengthen relationships among people and in turn, strengthen our community.
Rooted in Purim’s two Jewish values of gift gifting and matanot l’evyonim (giving to those who need support), we believe this season is the best time to give back and support our community.

Care packages similar to mishloach manot are one of the many examples of how Hillel Ryerson has supported and continues to support Jewish students on campus despite the many challenges we have faced over the last two years. Whether it was to welcome a first-year, a wellness kit to help get through exams, a “summer in the city” activities bag, or a chicken soup check-in, Hillel Ryerson has been there for its students, always meeting them where they’re at – literally and metaphorically.
As student leaders of Hillel Ryerson, we feel it’s incredibly important to give back to an organization that has continued to support our mental health and well-being during the most challenging times.
As we return to campus, Hillel Ryerson is our home away from home. Our Hillel space, the Loft, provides a warm and welcoming environment to take a break between classes or grab a snack. And for those of us who live downtown, Hillel Ryerson is the primary space for us to celebrate Jewish life away from our families.
With support from community members like you, we are proud to be able to foster a vibrant Jewish experience for fellow students, and create opportunities to celebrate Jewish life at Ryerson University.
