What we do

Hillel Ontario puts students at the centre of their Jewish experience by providing meaningful and relevant opportunities for them to connect to Judaism, Israel and their various intersecting identities.

Nurture Student
Leadership

Jewish students are the heart and soul of Hillel. Across the province, there are more than 230 students on Hillel leadership boards, driving our programming and representing the interests of Jewish students on their local campuses.

Foster Inclusive Jewish Campus Communities

In a world of vast and intersecting identities, Hillel believes that every student deserves to feel safe, welcomed and included. We work to foster an array of Jewish communities that are both inclusive and welcoming.

Celebrate Jewish
Joy and Traditions

Hillel offers year-round opportunities for students to express Jewish joy and pride. From Shabbat dinners to holiday services, we believe it’s important to celebrate the richness of Jewish traditions in a way that nurtures engagement and brings Jewish students together.

Educate Students About Judaism and Israel

Hillel offers both formal and informal educational opportunities to students who want to learn more about Judaism, the Jewish community and the Jewish State. Our intensive learning fellowships examine our shared history, and address the most pressing issues facing both Israel and the Jewish community today.

Confront Antisemitism
& Anti-Zionism

Hillel works to proactively address and counter antisemitismantisemitic activity on campus and in online student spaces through varied initiatives and programs. We aim to empower Jewish students – and their allies – to speak out against all forms of hate, and we educate the broader campus community to ensure antisemitism is both understood and not tolerated.

Promote Mental
Health & Wellness

Recent years have demonstrated a growing mental health crisis amongst university-aged students. Hillels around the world have begun increasing capacity to address the mental health and wellness needs of the Jewish students we serve. Hillel Ontario now has an in-house clinical therapist who offers both programming and counselling for students in need.

Connect Students with Career Opportunities

Finding a career path has always come with obstacles. In a post-COVID world, doing so has only become more difficult. Concerns about job and career prospects were the top source of anxiety in a recent student pulse check. Hillel fosters mentorship relationships that connect students to Jewish professionals in their field of choice, provides skills training for general and specific areas of interest, and partners with other community agencies to support students from campus to careers.

As the largest Jewish student organization in the world, Hillel enriches the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people,  and the world.
